How to Download Any Video from Any Website for Free

1
Using an Online Downloader

  1. 1. Go to a YouTube, Dailymotion, or Clipfish video. In your browser, go to a video that you want to download from one of these sites.
  2. 2
Select the video's address. Click the address bar at the top of your browser to highlight the address.
  3. 3
Copy the address. Press Ctrl+C (Windows) or  Command+C (Mac) to do so.
  4. 4
Open the Convert2MP3 website. Go to http://convert2mp3.net/en/ in your browser. While this website is based around creating audio (MP3) versions of YouTube, Dailymotion, and Clipfish videos, it can also convert videos from these sites into downloadable video (MP4) files.
    • If this site opens in German and you prefer English, click the American flag icon in the upper-right side of the page.
    5
Click the video link text field. It's below the "Insert video link (URL) and select format" heading in the middle of the page.
  5. 6
Paste in your video's address. Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or  Command+V (Mac) to do so. You should see the address that you copied earlier appear in the text field.
  6. 7
Click the mp3  box. It's to the right of the text field. A drop-down menu will appear.
  7. 8
Click mp4. You'll see this option in the mp3  drop-down menu. Doing so selects MP4 as your video's format.
  8. 9
Select a quality. Click the drop-down box to the right of the "MP4 quality" line of text, then select the quality level in which you want to download the video.
    • The quality that you select here can't be higher than the video's maximum quality. For example, you can't download a 720p video in 1080p.
    10
Click convert. It's an orange button to the right of the file format. Doing so will generate an MP4 download link for the video.
    • If clicking convert results in an error that says "pick another video" or "cannot be downloaded", Convert2MP3 is undergoing site maintenance. You'll most likely be able to use it again within 24 hours.
    11
Click Download. This green button is in the middle of the page. Your video's MP4 file will begin downloading onto your computer, though you may be prompted to select a download location and click Save depending on your browser.
  9. 2
    Using Video Downloader Professional

    1. 1
Understand where you can use Video Downloader Professional. Video Downloader Professional is a browser extension that allows you to download videos from almost any non-commercial (e.g., Netflix) website, but it will not work on YouTube.
      • VDP does work on Vimeo, as well as on most random sites with embedded video.
    2. 2
Open a supported web browser. You can use the Video Downloader Professional extension on ChromeFirefox, and Microsoft Edge.
      • The Video Downloader Professional extension is not available on Safari.
    3. 3
Go to the Video Downloader Professional page. Click one of the following links depending on your browser:
    4. 4
Install the extension. This process will depend on your browser as well:
      • Chrome - Click the blue + ADD TO CHROME button, then click Add extensionwhen prompted.
      • Firefox - Click the blue + Add to Firefox button, click the blue Add button when prompted, and click OK when prompted.
      • Edge - Wait for the Store app to open, click the blue Get button, wait for the app to install, and click Launch.
    5. 5
Enable Video Downloader Professional on Microsoft Edge. Skip this step if you aren't using Microsoft Edge. To enable VDP:
      • Click  in the upper-right corner of the window.
      • Click Extensions in the drop-down menu.
      • Click Video Downloader professional
      • Click the "Off" switch at the bottom of the menu.
      • Click Turn it on when prompted.
    6. 6
Go to a video that you want to download. Open the website on which the video resides and open the video in question.
    7. 7
Play the video. Click the video's "play" button to do so. You should see the Video Download Professional icon turn into a green arrow if it wasn't already green.
      • If the Video Downloader Professional icon doesn't turn green, refresh the page a few times by clicking the  icon near the top of the window.
    8. 8
Look for the largest download. In the drop-down menu, find the download name that has the largest file size listed on the green Download button.
      • For example, if there's a file with a 1.4 mb size and a 25 mb size listed, you'll usually want to go for the 25 mb one.
      • Video Downloader Professional finds every video on the page, as well as fragments of the main video, which is why you'll see several different downloads here.
    9. 9
Click Download. It's to the right of the video that you want to download. Doing so will prompt the video to download onto your computer, though you may be prompted to select a download location and click Save depending on your browser.

    3
Using a Screen Recording on Windows

    1. 1
Understand the limitations of screen recordings. Screen recording is a solution to wanting to download a protected video (e.g., something on Netflix) for your own use, but it results in choppy video and distant audio. You'll also need a subscription to the service in question to be able to access these videos.
    2. 2
Download and install Open Broadcast Software (OBS) Studio. Go to https://obsproject.com/download and click Download Installer on the right side of the page, then do the following:
      • Double-click the OBS Studio setup file.
      • Click Next
      • Click I Agree
      • Click Next
      • Uncheck the plugin box if you like.
      • Click Install
    3. 3
Click Finish when prompted. It's in the bottom-right corner of the window. Doing so will complete the installation and open OBS Studio.
      • If OBS Studio doesn't open, click Start
        Image titled Windowsstart.png
, type in obs studio, and click OBS Studio at the top of the window.
    4. 4
Click OK if prompted. This will accept the terms of use and bring you to the main OBS Studio window.
    5. 5
Click Yes on the "Auto-Configuration Wizard" window. This will bring up a window. To complete the setup wizard:
      • Check the "Optimize just for recording" box.
      • Click Next
      • Click Next
      • Click Apply Settings
      • If you prefer to set your own settings, click No instead.
    6. 6
Add your desktop to OBS Studio. Click the  icon below the "Sources" heading, click Display Capture or Game Capture, click OK at the bottom of the "New Capture" window, and click OK at the bottom of the window.
    7. 7
Click Settings. It's in the lower-right side of the OBS Studio window. The Settings window will open.
    8. 8
Click the Output tab. You'll find this option on the left side of the window.
    9. 9
Click the "Recording Format" drop-down box. It's near the bottom of the page. A drop-down menu will appear.
    10. 10
Click mp4. This is in the drop-down menu. Doing so sets your screen recording format to MP4, which is the most universal video format.
    11. 11
Click the Video tab. It's on the left side of the window.
    12. 12
Select the "Output (Scaled) Resolution" box's contents. Click and drag your mouse across this text box's contents, which you'll find near the top of the window.
    13. 13
Type in the "Base (Canvas) Resolution" box's value. Enter the value that's listed in the "Base (Canvas) Resolution" box into the "Output (Scaled) Resolution" box.
      • For example, if your base resolution is 1920x1080, you'd type that into the "Output (Scaled) Resolution" box.
    14. 14
Click the Audio tab. You'll find it on the left side of the window.
    15. 15
Enable audio recording. Click each of the "Mic/Auxiliary Audio" drop-down boxes, then click your computer's microphone name.
    16. 16
Click the Hotkeys tab. It's on the left side of the window.
    17. 17
Create a key combination for screen recording. Click the "Start Recording" text box, press a combination of keys (e.g., Alt+8), and repeat with the "Stop Recording" text box using a different combination.
    18. 18
Click Apply, then click OK. Both options are in the lower-right side of the window.
    19. 19
Open a protected video. Go to a site like Netflix or Hulu and sign in with your account credentials.
    20. 20
Full-screen the video. Click the "fullscreen" icon at the bottom of the video player. In some cases, you can also press F11 to full-screen the video.
    21. 21
Turn the volume up. You'll need the volume to be relatively high if you want to be able to hear the video's audio when playing it back.
    22. 22
Press your screen recording key combination. This is the key combination that you created earlier. Doing so will prompt OBS Studio to begin recording, though you'll receive no notification of the recording. If you instead see an error that says "Failed to record" or something similar, do the following:
      • Click OK on the error message.
      • Click Settings on the lower-right side of the OBS Studio window.
      • Click Output in the upper-left side of the Settings window.
      • Click the "Encoder" drop-down box.
      • Click Software (x264) in the drop-down menu.
      • Click Apply, then click OK
    23. 23
Play the video. Click the "Play" button on the video to do so.
    24. 24
Stop recording once the video concludes. After the video is done (or you've recorded as much as you want to see), press your "stop screen recording" key combination. Your video will be saved.
      • You can go to your video by clicking File and then clicking Show Recordings in the drop-down menu.
